The Cub Cadet XT1 LT42 is a comfortable and well-powered riding mower perfectly sized for my one-acre property. My first-day frustration was an uneven cut — the right side of the 42-inch deck was cutting about a quarter inch lower than the left. Spent 20 minutes adjusting the deck level per the manual and it's been cutting evenly since. Should be dialed in from the factory on a new machine at this price. Kohler engine and hydrostatic transmission are both excellent once you get past that.
The XT1 LT42 arrived requiring partial assembly and the instructions were harder to follow than they should be for a product at this price. The steering wheel installation and battery connection steps were particularly unclear. Once assembled — with help from an online video — the mower has performed well. Clean 42-inch cut, smooth transmission, reliable Kohler engine. Good mower that I'd recommend to a mechanically inclined buyer. Less confident recommending it to someone who expects turnkey simplicity.
The XT1 LT42 is a reliable mower for regular weekly maintenance cuts. The Kohler engine is dependable and the 42-inch deck cuts cleanly in normal conditions. Where it struggles is the first mowing of spring when grass is tall and thick — the discharge chute clogs every few passes and requires stopping to clear. Mowing at a slower speed and making narrower passes helps significantly. For regular maintenance mowing this is not an issue at all. Know your seasonal conditions before buying.

The Kohler engine starts reliably every single time and runs smoothly through every mowing session. The hydrostatic transmission is intuitive and smooth. The seat is comfortable for extended mowing. Three full seasons of trouble-free operation. Outstanding mower.
